Remove location data without uploading

Phone photos often embed where they were taken, which camera was used, and when. PixShrink’s strip control is on by default. Compression still runs in this tab. The download is written without those tags.

Re-encoding from pixels does not copy GPS. If the original file would have been kept because it was already small, JPEG, PNG, and WebP are cleaned in place instead of handed back with tags. Color profiles stay so colors remain close to the source.

How to strip location data

  1. Step 1

    Open the compressor

Go to the PixShrink home page. There is no sign-in.

  2. Step 2

Leave Strip location & camera data on

It is on by default. Turn it off only if you need the original tags for a catalog or archive.

  3. Step 3

    Drop photos, including HEIC

Up to 20 files, 40 MB each. HEIC is converted on this device, then saved without the original camera payload.

  4. Step 4

    Download locally

Each finished row notes that location and camera data were stripped. Close the tab when you are done.

What is removed — and what is not

Removed: GPS, camera make/model, timestamps, IPTC/XMP text, and similar descriptive tags in JPEG, PNG, and WebP. Re-encoded AVIF is written from pixels, so those tags are not copied.

Kept: the picture itself, and color profiles so the image does not shift unexpectedly. This is not a claim that every obscure container box in every AVIF original is rewritten. If strip is on and an AVIF original cannot be cleaned in place, PixShrink uses the re-encoded file.

Keep-original still applies

If re-encoding is not smaller, JPEG, PNG, and WebP can keep their original pixels after tags are removed. HEIC and size presets still export a new file. Turn strip off to keep tags when the original wins on size.
